Marcus Davies fought to a draw with Surrey’s Cody Robertson on Jan. 27.

Marcus Davies with the Sunshine Coast Boxing Club (SCBC) boxed Surrey’s respected Cody Robertson in a four-round fight that ended in a draw on Friday, Jan. 27 at the Cascades Casino Ballroom in Langley.

The long-armed Robertson kept Davies at a distance early in the fight, which allowed him to build up a slight points lead.

As the fight progressed, the shorter but powerful Davies increased the pressure on Robertson, who found it hard to stay at his desired punching distance.

In the final two rounds, Davies’ infighting gave him the scoring advantage with both men hammering punches on each other as the packed house cheered the men on to the final bell.

One judge had the fight for Davies and another for Robertson. The third judge scored the fight even, making the decision a split draw. This fight was a rematch of their November fight when Davies won a split decision.

Sunshine Coast Boxing Club coach Rick Shannon said that Davies – who is still in his first year of boxing – has been a workhorse with seven fights already.

“In his short career Davies has become a crowd favourite in the Lower Mainland, and I have promoters asking me if he is available for their shows,” Shannon said. “I’m steering Marcus towards a title fight in the hopes that it can be held in Gibsons on Saturday, April 1 for War on the Shore 5.”

Davies and the SCBC’s competitive and recreational boxers train at their gym located at 851 Gibsons Way in Gibsons.
