It was a big weekend for the Sunshine Coast Wrestling Team, which took several top five finishes at a large invitational wresting championship in Port Alberni.
Wrestlers from Elphinstone and Chatelech high schools and Gibsons Elementary School competed.
Several Elphinstone students had podium finishes, including Lia Trent (third), Lucy Huchinson (third), Eilis Mackenzie (second) and Alice Clements (third). Alana Krinapai took fourth, Hayden Van Der Stelt came in fifth and Sam Solis de Ovando took sixth. Brook Harapnuk of Chatelech came sixth and Gibsons Elementary student Ethan Sullivan came in second.
High school wrestlers will compete next in the Vancouver Zone Championships on Feb. 7, to qualify for the Provincial Championships, Feb. 15 to 17.
