A Coast sister act is coming together to help the Simon Fraser University women’s volleyball program next season.

Last week, Tessa May signed a national letter of intent to SFU for the 2015 season.

Tessa’s older sister Devon is a two-year letter winner as an outside hitter with the Clan, and will enter her junior year of eligibility in the upcoming season.

“Tessa has had the opportunity to follow our team’s progress over the past two seasons while watching her sister play as a member of our team,” head coach Gina Schmidt said. “We are thrilled that Tessa has decided to be part of where our program is heading, and we will look for her to make significant contributions early in her career.”

The 6’3” middle blocker is a two-time Vancouver and District champion at the AA level, and a high school all-star with the Elphinstone Secondary School Cougars.

“Tessa will provide us with a strong physical presence at the net and her versatility will allow us to run a wide range of offensive options,” Schmidt said.

She is also a BC Summer Games champion and last season won a B.C. provincial silver medal at the club level. This season she helped lead Elphinstone to a ninth place finish at the AAA B.C. high school championships.

“Tessa and the rest of our 2015 recruiting class bring great volleyball IQ and a wealth of high level experience to the court,” Schmidt said. “We look forward to watching them make a big impact on our program over the next several years.”
