Local baker Jenna Nestman isn’t slinging coffees at her Sechelt business this week. Instead, she’ll be putting pedal to the metal at the Canadian Track Championships for Elite and Masters athletes in Milton, Ont.

The competition kicks off Sept. 27 and features 154 elite cyclists across several age categories, many of whom are preparing for the World Cup season. Nestman, 30, will compete in four sprint categories and is hoping to achieve personal best times.

The athlete is relatively new to track cycling, having made the switch from triathlon two years ago. She also overcame four fractures in her right leg, after falling off her horse in January 2018.

Nestman’s store, Lone Wolf Bakery, will be closed while she’s in Ontario and is scheduled to reopen Oct. 2.
