The annual Space Cup Ball Hockey Tournament was back for a second year on the May 14-15 weekend.

The Space Cup Champions this year were the Beer Barons. The Barons defended their title by beating Moves Like Jagr in the final game and remain undefeated two years running. No easy feat, considering all the new talent this year with teams like the L.A Riot coming from as far away as California.

Space Cup is a fundraiser for the Sunshine Coast Association for Community Living (SCACL). Last year it raised over $1,200. Registration doubled this year, as did the donation.

Glen McClughan of SCACL and Pete Wieler of Space Building hatched the idea for the tournament in early 2015. Since then, other businesses have come on board with their support for this fun community event.

This year a kids division was added. The five teams of nine- and 10-year-olds battled it out for the better part of two days and in the final game, the Bonniebrook Bruisers defeated The Junior Razorbacks to add their names to the Space Cup.

See sports ticker below for scores.

Thanks is extended to Tom Poulton and the SCRD for the use of the Gibsons arena parking lot and facilities.

The Space Cup is scheduled to happen every year in May, the weekend before the May long weekend.
