Too much focus on fringe

Editor:

One might have thought, reading the Oct. 14 article on the Gibsons Alliance of Business and Community (GABC) Thanksgiving weekend fundraiser, that it was a well-attended and significant event. Perhaps this misleading coverage increased the response to your subsequent poll. While I completely agree that your poll is unscientific, I was interested to note that the results came close to mirroring the results of our last municipal election, with the slate of candidates who were opposed to progressive development receiving a markedly smaller percentage of the vote, as residents of the Town of Gibsons voted by a large majority to have construction of the George move forward.

It should be remembered that none of the candidates against this project was elected. It surprises me that you continue to highlight the actions of GABC, many members of which are neither business owners nor residents of Gibsons.

The GABC is wasting taxpayers’ dollars by filing lawsuits with the sole intent of delaying the George; since the GABC was formed, we have yet to see this group propose one positive initiative for the residents of Gibsons. It is easy to complain, find fault and say no to any and all change; far more courage and leadership are required to propose options that create job opportunities for residents of all ages, affordable housing for individuals, families and seniors, and help ensure our town has a sustainable financial future. How much better it would be to expend our efforts and financial resources on projects that create benefits and opportunities for all the residents of Gibsons.
