My husband and I had a front row seat to the actions of the Ken Moore, RCM-SAR Halfmoon Bay Search and Rescue, the Penac, Canadian Coast Guard hovercraft, the CCGS Cape Caution and the SAR Cormorant helicopter late Friday night from 11 p.m. until approximately until 3 a.m. Saturday. These awesome crews searched the area encompassing Welcome Beach, South Thormanby and Halfmoon Bay in vain for four hours.

I had heard a man in some distress at approximately 10:30 p.m. on Friday night, but it was others who reported the apparent Mayday. I felt distressed to see that the SAR crews had no luck in finding this "missing" person, but I wasn't surprised considering the weather conditions they had to deal with.

I found out later that the RCMP located the subject of the search who'd gone for a swim and was unaware of the search for him. I feel somewhat angry and frustrated with this inconsiderate individual, but I only feel grateful to those who risked themselves for him that night.
