As a resident of Sechelt, I’m not seeing much from your office regarding social distancing. I feel that signs are needed reminding people of their responsibility to do so. I still see many people continuing their lives as if there is no issue. This is very frustrating for health staff and the general public.

There are key locations in Sechelt where signage could be put up reminding the public that we are in a crisis situation. We are all in this together and it’s our local government’s responsibility to make it perfectly clear to our population to adhere to the guidelines set out by our provincial government. I understand that we do have some cases of the virus here on the Sunshine Coast and we need to make our residents aware of this. I’m sure that people feel we are somehow isolated here, but that’s just not true. I suggest signage be put up in areas like entering Sechelt on the main routes; more could be put up at the entrance to Halfmoon Bay; one could be put up at the bottom of Norwest Bay Road. These are suggestions that could remind those not complying to make the same effort that will surely see us through this very difficult time.

Please try to help our residents continue to do the right thing.

Randall Smith, Sechelt
