Stunning hypocrisy

Letters

Editor:

Why did Gibsons council go through the expensive motions of pretending to have community “consultation” over the low-barrier housing slated for 749 School Road? This was a done deal when the mayor signed the agreement with the feds on Feb. 8 (see page 22 of the 217-page staff report for the July 16 planning and development committee meeting) prior to any input from the public (page 4 of the same staff report). This package can be found on the Town of Gibsons webpage, where you can check yourself for the accuracy of these facts.

Thank goodness for Councillor Ladwig, the only member of council who gave this project any critical thought. The hypocrisy of the other councillors who pretended this was not a fait accompli and the arrogance of the mayor who committed to this site, clientele and timeline with no public input are breathtaking in their blatant disregard for the taxpayers of Gibsons.
