No issue with students

Letters

Editor:

Re: “Water before rainbows” by David Rogers, Letters, June 7.

As a Christian, I see no issue with students promoting pride or protesting pipelines. Jesus said, “Love your God and love each other as I have loved you.” I am bisexual, Christian, and a member of a Christian church. LGBTQ2 people are included in our Christian churches and community.

Public schools are not a place for doctrine, doctrine is for religion. Gender and sexual health education saves the lives of students with suicidal ideation, many of whom are part of the LGBTQ2 community. Most children who have been sexually assaulted have been victimized by people they know. This education helps children understand consent and bodily autonomy so they will seek help when they need it. It creates safety and community-minded Canadians.

Jesus didn’t say anything on the subject of heartbeats in wombs. God gave us freedom of choice.

The Supreme Court of Canada states that people are given the right to choose.

On the letter’s final point. Assuming that you speak for the majority of taxpayers in Gibsons and Sechelt is ridiculous. The rainbow crosswalk is made from heated tiles that are fused to the road, which is more durable than paint and will last 15 years. It saves $17,000 in repainting fees, and it takes nothing away from the water supply fund.
