Library needs help

Letters

Editor:

I have been a resident of the Sunshine Coast for over 50 years, and a user of the library for as long as there has been a public library in Sechelt.

More citizens of Sechelt use the library than any other municipal service and they are, quite frankly, treated poorly by the municipality. Many like me are seniors and our lives would be poorer without the services the library provides.

The municipality has underfunded the library for years, and at present the library receives $10/person less than a library in a town of a similar size in B.C. (the lowest in B.C.) and $17/person less than the Gibsons library.

The librarian and staff perform miracles in offering the services they do, and I am afraid that unless the budget is improved those services will be reduced.

I would ask the council on behalf of all users for a substantial funding increase for our library.
