Happy Cat Haven era ends

Letters

Editor:

To those on the Sunshine Coast who have supported or been helped by Happy Cat Haven for the past 30 years:

I have just happily celebrated my 90th birthday but now, with great sadness and regret, I have to advise that we are finally closing down the Haven on March 31. We are no longer able to shelter as many animals as in previous years or pay for cat and dog neutering/spaying, dental work and injuries as we have in the past through our outreach program. Our funds are depleted and the very few cats remaining in my house (the longtime home of the Haven) will be cared for as long as I am able.

I would like to thank all my wonderful volunteers and paid workers for their “slaving” over the past 30 years – we certainly would not have been as successful without their continual help and energy. I would also like to thank the many generous supporters of the Haven, both financially and with their donation of time and ingenuity in keeping the Haven afloat and active in our community over the years.

Our till tape boxes at local grocery stores have been removed but I strongly encourage you to place your tapes in any of the other worthy charity boxes. Our collection cans have also been retrieved from the various locations in our community. We will continue to run the can and bottle recycling program at 760 School Rd. and the funds will be donated to other charities.

My thanks again to the many, many supporters of Happy Cat Haven, both on the Sunshine Coast and the Lower Mainland, who have stuck with us over the past 30 years.
