Sechelt Golf commenced operation in 1991 and has steadily improved and grown over these past 20 years. The golf course over these years has become a prized amenity of the community offering Sunshine Coast residents and tourists the opportunity to play a high caliber golf course at affordable rates.

The District of Sechelt unexpected seizure of Sechelt Golf and Country Club was supported by a claim that Sechelt Golf and Country Club Ltd. was in arrears $191,000 of rent payable to the District of Sechelt. While this is the amount claimed by the District it does not reflect the fact that $155,000 of that sum includes a " recalculation" by the District of rents paid by Sechelt Golf during the period 2004-2008. This sum is in dispute and has been for years.

There are approximately 250 shareholder/members of SGCC, who have invested in excess of $3,000,000 to create the golf course, the pro-shop, the Augusta Grill, the driving range, the maintenance building and the many other amenities at SGCC. In my opinion, the District, by its actions, may obtain a golf course and its fixed assets valued in the $2 to $3 million and deprive the shareholder/members of SGCC of any value in the facilities they have created.
