Fortis helps marsh

Letters

Editor:

This is to thank FortisBC, our natural gas company, for their contribution to the Sechelt Marsh. The path around the marsh was overrun by a luxurious growth and it had to be trimmed back to allow passage of groups of people, baby carriages and wheelchairs.

This project was conceived last year in a phone call with Carmen Driechel of Fortis who suggested the company was interested in helping the marsh with a significant project. The scope was discussed with Perry Schmitt and Jamie Anderson of the District of Sechelt, and the district agreed to provide tools if necessary and to cart away the brush. The project was completed on June 26 by a group of five Fortis volunteers led by Ben McCarthy. Perry Schmitt acted as liaison and worked along with the Fortis crew. Altogether four truckloads of brush were removed in an orderly and well managed way.

Thank you, Fortis, for your work on this joint project with the District of Sechelt and the Sunshine Coast Natural History Society.

Barry B. Pruden, Director, Sunshine Coast Natural History Society
