Danger to national unity

Thank you for your editorial, “A big night for the Bloc,” Oct. 25.

All voters should be represented in Parliament. Our current system does not provide that representation. As a result, we now have a parliament that is dramatically and wrongfully skewed to make it look as if our regional differences are way more pronounced that they actually are. All parties (except the Bloc) are in fact national parties and supported by voters in every province and territory – but you would never know it looking at the election results.

The election results are divisive and dangerous to national unity.

I am delighted that the Coast Reporter realizes that our current election system is broken, and is calling for a National Citizens Assembly to usher in a proportional voting system before the next federal election. I hope that everyone will contact our MP, Patrick Weiler, to urge him to support changing our outmoded and unrepresentative voting model to a proportional voting system.
