Danger at Trout Lake

Letters

Editor:

A near-death accident around noon Feb. 4 on Highway 101 at Trout Lake caused by black ice resulted in a car landing upside down in a water-filled ditch. The driver and passenger had their heads submerged in water.

A passerby helped get the seatbelts undone and get them out of the car. The highway was closed for two hours. Emergency crews attended and transported the injured to hospital in Sechelt.

Through the years there have been many such accidents during winter weather along this dangerous stretch of highway due to lack of attention to plowing snow and attending to black ice.

This area requires: 1. Concrete berms. 2. Camcorder. 3. Signs alerting the motorists. 4. Increased attention to snow removal.
