Re: “Procedural error led to Surrey crash,” Aug. 30.

BC Ferries official Darren Johnston’s explanation for the March 26 Queen of Surrey crash was “a procedural error by the bridge team.”

The comment that made my jaw drop was his explanation that the individual members of the bridge team were experienced, but this was one of the first times they’d all worked together, and that also contributed to the procedural error.

So, using Mr. Johnston’s formula, if a pilot and co-pilot were flying a 747 and they both were experienced but had yet to work together, a procedural error would have to suffice for the grieving family members of the 747’s crash.

Is not the pilot of the plane in charge? And is not the captain of the ferry in charge?

This comes down to negligence and stupidity, plain and simple.
