Call for bells rings true

Re: “Ring your bells, cyclists,” Letters, Jan. 15.

I agree completely with Yvonne Mounsey’s call for cyclists to use bells to alert walkers. Last week on the Inglis Trail, I almost stepped into the path of a cyclist coming up behind me on my left. I have no idea why I looked over my shoulder just as I began my step to the side. I leapt back, saving both of us.

I walk the trails frequently. In 10 years, I believe that no more than five times has a cyclist used a bell to warn me that they are coming. We cannot hear you coming up behind us. Please, please, please, let us know where you are.
