We (the Ferry Advisory Committee) have been informed by the Ministry of Transportation and Infra-structure that the interpretation by B.C. Ferries is wrong (Route 3 enjoys a 50 per cent discount when junior sports teams travel on B.C. Ferries). The correct application of students' discounts is: where travel to a "school event" is free (100 per cent) junior sports teams also travel free. Where travel to a "school event" enjoys a 50 per cent discount, junior teams have to pay the full tariff fare (experience card fares are available).

We, the FAC chairs, have made representations to MOTI about this significant disadvantage for our Sunshine Coast youth.

MOTI have informed us that they realize there is a need for clarity in the interpretation of students' discounts and their application and that they are prepared to work with us towards a fair and equitable solution.

Presently the only chance for free travel is an application to SPORTBC (www.sports.bc.ca).
