Affirmation valued most

Letters

Editor:

I would like to say how important I feel the Coast Cable drive in support of the Elves Club really is. Whatever you call it – Crash the Coast or as we with RCM-SAR 14 call it, Fill the Boot – the event serves yet another very important purpose.

Few residents on the Sunshine Coast are able to escape the first responders – in full gear, boot in hand – soliciting donations for the Elves Club. Aside from supporting a worthwhile cause, and this is the part I truly appreciate, it gives the residents of the Sunshine Coast the one-on-one opportunity to thank these first responder volunteers.

It’s the thanks not to the volunteer standing in the pouring rain collecting for others, but the opportunity to give their heartfelt affirmation for the other volunteer work they do – as firefighters, as Land Search and Rescue or Marine Search and Rescue members.

I am very proud to be able to serve my community with such a wonderful dedicated group of volunteers. The affirmation we received from the community on Saturday makes it all worthwhile. So a very special thanks to those who took that extra time to express their appreciation for the other role in which we serve along with their donations.

Also special thanks to the Coast Cable team for making it all possible.
