Weaver Jessica Silvey has completed her Reconciliation Blanket, called Unbroken Friendship, part of the syiyaya Reconciliation Movement project. Silvey’s blanket is on display at the Vancouver Roundhouse until the end of February and will be showcased on the Sunshine Coast upon its return.

The Weaving Reconciliation project, set to run until June, also involves weavers ch’elkwilwet Raquel Joe and kwayimin Andy Johnson. Joe will begin warping up her weaving this week at the tems swiya Museum, where she serves as the curator. Her design will be of the Inlet at sunset.

A public event to honour the weavers will be held at 7 p.m. this Friday, Feb. 22 at the tems swiya Museum.

And, in partnership with Gibsons Public Library, a KAIROS Blanket Exercise with John and Nancy Denham is set for Saturday, Feb. 23 from 6 to 9 p.m. KAIROS is a unique participatory history lesson developed in collaboration with Indigenous elders, knowledge keepers and educators that fosters truth, understanding, respect and reconciliation among Indigenous and non-Indigenous people. Space is limited. RSVP the library at 604-886-2130 to confirm your spot.
