Sunshine Coast Regional District (SCRD) directors voted in favour of supporting an application by a cider company for a lounge and picnic area endorsement.

Sunday Cider business owners Clinton McDougall and Patrick Connelly attended the Feb. 7 SCRD planning committee meeting and gave a short history of their company, which launched as a weekend side project five years ago.

The Vancouver-based business’s vision is to grow apples for their cider and produce it on their property, which is located off Highway 101 between Highland Road and Oceanview Drive and zoned for agriculture. They have received preliminary approval for the production facility from the province, have cleared eight acres and have 500 apple trees for planting in the existing heritage orchard.

McDougall said he wants to create a service lounge as a place for people to “experience the cider” and to showcase food grown at nearby farms.
