Two Buddhas have been returned to business owners Kelly and James Oswald after they were reported stolen in December.

“They were gone for quite awhile but they’re home and they’re happy,” said Kelly Oswald, co-owner of gift and décor shop The Oracle on Cowrie Street in Sechelt.

The 1.5-metre, 34-kilogram (5 ft., 75 lb.) Buddhas, sourced from Bali, Indonesia, were taken Dec. 9. They appeared under the arms of two people leaving the premises on security camera footage, which was supplied to the Sunshine Coast RCMP.

The Buddhas were returned the morning of Jan. 19.

“Somebody pulled up in a car and unloaded them,” said Kelly Oswald. They were wrapped in packaging and had “obviously been well looked after.” She said people had come to the store and told her they’d help get them back.

“Eventually, finally, they did,” she said.

The Buddhas have been reinstalled outside of the storefront and are now locked in place.
