Seven not-for-profit organizations on the Sunshine Coast are sharing in more than $200,000 in the latest round of Community Gaming Grants. All seven groups are involved in environmental or public safety initiatives.

“These organizations do really important work in our communities,” said Nicholas Simons, MLA for Powell River-Sunshine Coast, in a release announcing the funding. “It’s great that we’re able to support them with this well deserved funding.”

The Gibsons Marine Rescue Society, which supports Royal Canadian Marine Search and Rescue (RCM-SAR) Station 14, is getting $52,600.

A $24,500 grant goes to the Pender Harbour & District Marine Rescue Society, which fundraises for RCM-SAR Station 61, and the Sunshine Coast Marine Rescue Society got $22,500 to help support RCM-SAR Station 12.

Other gaming grants went to the SC Search and Rescue Association ($35,000), Ruby Lake Lagoon Nature Reserve Society ($52,000), Restorative Justice Program of the Sunshine Coast ($12,000) and SC Conservation Association ($15,000).

The Community Gaming Grants program provides up to $140 million to about 5,000 not-for-profit organizations in B.C. each year.
