Cowrie Street in downtown Sechelt was closed for part of the day March 18 while crews took advantage of the spring-like weather to install a rainbow crosswalk in the middle of the block between Inlet and Trail avenues. The rainbow crosswalk, which will be the first in the district, was approved by council last August. Sechelt public works staff estimated the cost at between $7,500 and $12,000, which would come from the department’s operations budget. The district said this week that the final cost came in at $12,880 and the crosswalk is expected to last at least 15 years before it needs replacing.
