Rona dealer-owners Russ and Tess Jones celebrated the grand opening of their new Rona Appliance & Design Showroom by Coast Builders in Gibsons Nov. 21, officially adding the store to their two other Rona locations in Madeira Park and Sechelt.

Local dignitaries and customers joined the Gibsons Coast Builders’ team to mark the big event with an official board cutting ceremony.

Mayor Bill Beamish said the store is a perfect fit with the Town of Gibsons strategic plan objectives of planning for sustainable growth.

“This store reflects local people supporting local people,” he said.

Beamish also recognized the ingenuity of the business owners in creating a visually appealing appliance and design showroom that incorporates three shipping containers.

The Joneses acquired the Gibsons Sears store in 2017 and started an extensive renovation process to convert the space into a unique design destination. The store is the result of a $500,000 local investment and created three jobs in the community.

The 5,000-sq.-ft. store offers merchandise for kitchen and bathroom renovations, including appliances, cabinets, lighting, and other products, as well as design services. The three converted shipping containers provide space for seasonal, patio and outdoor power equipment products.

“We are thrilled to be celebrating the official grand opening of our showroom,” said Russ Jones, adding that the store’s selection and services will enable customers to “bring their dream kitchen and bathroom to life.”

Rona district manager Bill Cosulich congratulated the couple for “their commitment to expand the Gibsons market and to continue to grow the Rona Coast Builder brand on the Sunshine Coast.”

Cosulich described the design showroom as “unique and innovative,” noting there is “not another Rona store like it.”

The store’s weeklong celebrations go on until until Nov. 27 with the draw for a five-cubic-ft. freezer taking place on Sunday, Nov. 24.
