Sunshine Coast RCMP are hoping to hear from anyone with information about a weekend brush fire in Halfmoon Bay.

The Halfmoon Bay Fire Department was called out around 10 a.m. Sunday after reports of a fire in the area of the 5900 block of Trout Lake Road.

RCMP said the fire “could have had a disastrous impact.”

Fire investigators have confirmed it was caused by human activity.

“This area is well known for people shooting guns and illegal dumping of garbage,” said a release from RCMP Const. Karen Whitby. “The fire was smouldering along the ground through the garbage and into the shrubs. Luckily the fire was put out before it reached the tree line.”

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Sunshine Coast RCMP at 604-885-2266 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
