RCMP: Fire guts travel trailer in Gibsons

Sunshine Coast RCMP reported the following for May 20 to 27:

• On May 21, police assisted the Gibsons Volunteer Fire Department with a travel trailer on fire in the 1100 block of Malaview Road, Gibsons. The trailer, which was derelict and unoccupied, was completely gutted. Fortunately, no one was injured and no other property was damaged.

Stolen Kayak

• Overnight on May 22, a suspect stole a 10-foot Manitou kayak from a property in the 2800 block of Lower Road, Roberts Creek. The stolen kayak is described as yellow with a piece of driftwood as one of the carrying handles. Anyone with any information about this theft is asked to contact RCMP, reference police file 2019-3103.

Collision

• On May 27, police attended a motor vehicle incident involving a skateboarder in the 700 block of Gibsons Way, Gibsons. The unimpaired driver, who remained on scene, advised that due to limited visibility and the skateboarder’s dark clothing, she did not see the skateboarder until she heard the collision. Fortunately, the skateboarder was not seriously injured and was assessed and released by Emergency Health Services. The matter has been referred to ICBC.

• On May 25, police attended a single-vehicle incident on Highway 101 near Selma Park Road, Sechelt, after a vehicle ended up facing south in the northbound ditch. The uninjured driver advised he had been driving north when he lost control on the bend in the road and slid into the ditch. The vehicle was towed and the driver was issued a violation ticket for no driver’s licence. The matter has been referred to ICBC.

Impaired Driving

• On May 24, police pulled over a possible impaired driver at a roadblock set up near the intersection of Highway 101 and Largo Road, Roberts Creek. The driver, who explained that her passengers were intoxicated, was also exhibiting signs of impairment. The driver was given a roadside alcohol screening test which resulted in a “warn.” The driver was issued a three-day Immediate Roadside Prohibition. The matter has been referred to RoadSafetyBC.

Bike Theft

• Overnight on May 23, a suspect stole a child’s red and black Giant mountain bike that had been left unsecured at Gibsons Elementary School in the 700 block of School Road, Gibsons. Anyone with any information about this theft is asked to contact RCMP, reference police file number 2019-3179.

Found Property

• On May 23, a cell phone found along Westwood Road in Halfmoon Bay was turned in. Owner may claim within 90 days with detailed description. Please reference police file number 2019-3130.

• On May 23, a helmet found in downtown Sechelt was turned in. Owner may claim within 90 days with detailed description. Please reference police file 2019-3139.

• On May 25, a wheelchair was found in the 700 block of Gibsons Way. Owner may claim with detailed description within 90 days. Please reference file 2019-3182.

• On May 27, a flash drive that had been found near the 5700 block of Cowrie Street, Sechelt, was turned in. Owner may claim within 90 days with detailed description. Please reference police file 2019-3220.
