Police report: Yelling at puppy prompts noise complaint

Sunshine Coast RCMP reported the following for Nov. 14 to 21: On Nov. 18, police responded to a noise complaint at an apartment in Gibsons after a resident reported hearing ongoing yelling and a dog yelping nearby.

Sunshine Coast RCMP reported the following for Nov. 14 to 21:

On Nov. 18, police responded to a noise complaint at an apartment in Gibsons after a resident reported hearing ongoing yelling and a dog yelping nearby. Police attended the address and could hear a male yelling. Police located the residence where the noise was coming from and located a male who explained that he was trying to train a new puppy and was frustrated because the puppy cried every time the male left the room. Police examined the puppy and determined it was very happy and healthy. The new dog owner was advised to be mindful of his neighbours and to keep the yelling down. 

Break and Enter
• Overnight on Nov. 20, a suspect gained entry to a trailer at an address in the 700 block of Park Road, Gibsons, by cutting off locks on the door, and stole a large number of Makita and Dewalt brand hand and power tools, assorted levels and a crow bar and a tripod. Anyone with any information about this break and enter is asked to contact RCMP, reference police file 2020-8038. 
 

Collision
• On Nov. 17, police attended a two-vehicle incident on Highway 101 at Crowe Road, Roberts Creek. The first vehicle attempted to make a left turn off Crowe Road onto the highway and collided with the second vehicle, causing it to spin around and strike a road sign before coming to a rest. Fortunately, neither driver sustained any life-threatening injuries but the second vehicle had to be towed due to damage. The first vehicle driver was issued a violation ticket for failure to yield on a left turn. The matter has been referred to ICBC.

Theft
• Between Nov. 14 and 16, a suspect stole a car battery from a vehicle parked in the 4300 block of Gun Club Road, Sechelt. The battery is described as an Interstate, model FRN24/62s. 

Found Property
• On Nov. 19, a musical instrument found on Gower Point Road, Gibsons, was turned in. Owner may claim within 90 days with detailed description. Please reference police file 2020-8004.
• On Nov. 19, a distinctive small wallet found in the 5600 block of Highway 101, Sechelt, was turned in. Owner may claim within 90 days with detailed description. Please reference police file 2020-8017.

Overloaded Vehicle 
• On Nov. 19, police witnessed a truck on Highway 101 by Davis Bay Beach, Sechelt, that appeared overloaded. Police noted a large amount of damage on one side of the vehicle and totally compressed suspension with the wheel wells over top of the tires. The load in the truck box was also insecure. Police issued the driver a Box 1 notice and order to have the vehicle undergo a safety inspection and the licence plates were seized. The driver was also issued a violation ticket for operating a non-commercial vehicle without proper equipment or with insecure cargo.

Impaired Driving
• On Nov. 19, police attended a single-vehicle incident in the intersection of Dubois Road and Highway 101, Garden Bay, after a witness reported a vehicle in the ditch and a possible impaired driver inside. Police noted the driver exhibiting signs of possible intoxication from alcohol and tried to have the driver provide a breath sample for a roadside alcohol-screening test, but the driver refused. After the driver continued to refuse, she was issued an administrative driving prohibition and the file is still under investigation.
• On Nov. 19, police attended a single-vehicle incident in the 1300 block of Gower Point Road, Gibsons, after the local fire department assisted a driver who’d ended up in the ditch. The driver advised police that she had lost control and went off road, and that she had consumed alcohol a short time prior to driving. The driver was given a roadside alcohol-screening test and after two fail results, was issued a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition. The driver’s vehicle was also impounded for 30 days. The matter has been referred to RoadSafetyBC.
• On Nov. 20, a witness reported a possible impaired driver northbound on Highway 101 near Field Road, Sechelt, after the vehicle was seen having trouble maintaining its lane, driving jerkily, and at erratic speeds. Police located the suspect vehicle and driver and witnessed more poor driving behaviour before initiating a traffic stop. The driver explained she was learning how to drive a standard vehicle and advised that she’d consumed alcohol earlier in the day. The driver was given and failed a roadside alcohol-screening test and was issued a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition. The driver’s vehicle was impounded for 30 days and the matter has been referred to RoadSafetyBC.
• On Nov. 21, police witnessed a vehicle turn off Wharf Road onto Highway 101, Sechelt, at a high rate of speed. The vehicle continued on at an excessive speed before police were able to initiate a traffic stop. The driver, who was exhibiting possible signs of intoxication from alcohol, was given and failed a roadside alcohol-screening test. The driver was issued a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition and his vehicle was impounded for 30 days. The matter has been referred to RoadSafetyBC.
