Sunshine Coast RCMP reported the following for April 13 to 20:

• On April 17, police attended a break and enter at a business in the 800 block of Gibsons Way, Gibsons, where the suspect had removed siding to access a storage shed and stole a large dark grey and white faced all-weather clock. The suspect was caught on surveillance video and has been identified and arrested. The file is still under investigation.

• In a separate incident on the same day, police attended an alarm at a school in the 800 block of Gibsons Way, Gibsons. The suspect gained entry by prying open a door and was captured on surveillance video stealing a bag full of assorted tools as well as a laptop computer. The suspect, who is known to police, was located and arrested for an outstanding warrant as well as these additional offences. Some of the stolen property has been recovered. The file is still under investigation.

Break and Enter

• Around April 8, a suspect(s) gained entry to an unlocked shed in the 6200 block of Highway 101, Sechelt, and stole a variety of items, including two red plastic jerry cans containing fuel, a Stihl MS 171 chainsaw, a Mastercraft skill saw and Mastercraft reciprocating saw, a red metal Mastercraft tool box with assorted hand tools, and a pellet gun with an optic scope and what appears to be a silencer-style cylinder at the end of the barrel. Anyone with any information about this incident is asked to contact RCMP, reference police file 2020-2337.

• On April 19, a witness reported a break and enter at a business property in the 1900 block of Field Road, Sechelt, after a female with short red hair was seen rummaging through a vehicle. The female suspect exited the property through a hole in the fence and left the area in an older white Chevy truck driven by a male. The suspect vehicle was later located by police, and was found to have improper licence plates and no insurance, and was being driven by a prohibited driver. The file is still under investigation.

Motorcycle Crash

• On April 16, police attended a motor vehicle incident in the 5800 block of Teredo Street, Sechelt, involving a motorcycle and vehicle. The motorcyclist advised he’d failed to notice that traffic had come to a stop and rode into the back of the vehicle in front of him. The motorcyclist sustained minor injuries and damage to both vehicles was minor. The matter has been referred to ICBC.

Hit and Run

• On April 16, police attended a hit and run on Highway 101 near Tapp Road, Halfmoon Bay. The complainant advised that the suspect vehicle, described as a grey SUV, came eastbound around the bend and crossed over into the oncoming lane, causing the westbound vehicle to swerve to avoid a collision. The suspect vehicle struck the back end of the other vehicle before correcting and continuing east. Police seized broken parts off the suspect vehicle and later in the evening, located the suspect vehicle on Leanne Road, Sechelt. The driver was issued a violation ticket for failing to remain at the scene of accident. The matter has been referred to ICBC.

Theft

• On April 17, a suspect was witnessed taking approximately two dozen eggs from an honour produce stand in the 700 block of Henry Road, Gibsons, and leaving behind a fraction of what was owed in the payment jar. The female suspect, who had shoulder length brown hair, got into the passenger seat of a newer model black sedan and fled before staff could stop her. Police are reviewing surveillance footage and the file is still under investigation.

• Overnight on April 18, a suspect stole three sheets of 4 feet by 8 feet plywood from a business in the 5400 block of Trail Avenue, Sechelt. The suspect(s) managed to manoeuvre the wood through a gated fence.

Mischief to Mailboxes

• On April 17, Canada Post staff reported mischief to community mailboxes located in the 1600 block of McCullough Road, Sechelt. A second bank of community mailboxes was also reported damaged on Lower Road near Grandview Road, Gibsons. It is unknown if anything was actually stolen. Anyone with any information about these incidents is asked to contact RCMP, reference police files 2020-2415 and 2020-2418.

Catalytic Converter Theft

• Around the end of March or early April, a suspect cut out a catalytic converter from a vehicle, possibly while it was parked in the 400 block of King Road, Gibsons. The owner of the vehicle had noticed her vehicle was making strange noises and took it into a mechanic’s shop, where the damage was confirmed.

Found Property

• On April 20, a cellphone that had been found at a park in the Sechelt was turned in. Owner may claim within 90 days with detailed description. Please reference police file 2020-2509.

• A well-used boat was found floating loose near the 6900 block of Porpoise Drive, Sechelt. Owner may claim with detailed description within 90 days. Please reference police file number 2020-2510.
