Sunshine Coast RCMP reported the following for Aug. 12 to 19:

Illegal Fishing

• On Aug. 16, police conducting patrols on Davis Bay pier for illegal fishing located a crab line and traps without proper identification markings. The traps were seized and will be held for 90 days. Owner may claim with detailed description, documentation and discussion with the investigator. Reference police file 2018-5715.

Traffic Incidents

• On Aug. 16, police attended a two-vehicle incident in the 5300 block of Highway 101, Selma Park, after a vehicle stopped for standing traffic and was rear-ended by a second vehicle. Both vehicles sustained noticeable damage and had to be towed from the scene. All parties were taken to Sechelt Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries and assessment. The driver of the second vehicle was issued a violation ticket for failing to leave sufficient room between vehicles. The matter has been referred to ICBC.

• On Aug. 19, police attended a single-vehicle incident on Highway 101 near Leek Road, Roberts Creek, after a passerby noticed a vehicle in the ditch facing the wrong way. Emergency Health Services and the Roberts Creek Volunteer Fire Department also attended and located a driver who was exhibiting signs of intoxication. The uncooperative driver was eventually arrested for being intoxicated in public and served a 24-hour driving prohibition and a violation ticket for driving without due care and attention. The matter has been referred to ICBC.

• On Aug. 19, police attended a single motorcycle incident in the 14300 block of Highway 101, Pender Harbour, after witnesses reported a southbound motorcyclist had failed to negotiate a curve and slid down an embankment. Fortunately, the unimpaired rider was able to climb back up to the road where Emergency Health Services waited to take him to hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. Police determined that rider inexperience and unfamiliarity with the roads were factors. The motorcycle was towed and the matter has been referred to ICBC.

Break and Enters

• In the early hours of Aug. 18, police attended a break and enter at a business in the 5600 block of Cowrie Street, Sechelt, after the suspect was seen on live video surveillance entering the premises. The suspect was apprehended nearby and found to be in possession of a large amount of stolen cash. The male was arrested for break and enter and the file is still under investigation.

• On Aug. 19 shortly before 5 a.m., a suspect triggered the alarm at a business in the 5600 block of Cowrie Street, Sechelt. Police attended the confirmed break and enter and noted the suspect had broken off the front entrance lock, using some kind of pry tool. Police swept the premises and did not locate anyone inside. Staff are still determining if anything was stolen. The file is still under investigation. Anyone with any information about this incident is asked to contact RCMP, reference file 2018-5841.

Thefts

• On Aug. 18, a theft was reported at a business in the 5500 block of Wharf Avenue, Sechelt, after staff witnessed a suspect who appeared to have hidden a number of items in her purse before leaving the premises. The suspect, who was captured on surveillance video, is described as a late 20s-early 30s Caucasian female with long dark hair who was wearing a light blue sleeveless collared shirt, pink pants and light sandals. The suspect also had sunglasses and a large tan or orange tote bag. Anyone with any information about this theft is asked to contact RCMP, reference file 2018-5831.
