The 2018 updated route concept for the Suncoaster Trail will be discussed at an open house on Nov. 14 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Elphinstone Secondary School.

The public is invited to provide input on Phase 2 of the Suncoaster Trail at an open house on Nov. 14 at Elphinstone Secondary from 5 to 8 p.m.

The project is meant to link Langdale to Egmont through a series of interconnected trails. Phase 1 was completed in 2010 and connected Egmont to Halfmoon Bay with 37 kilometres of trails and roadways. At 60 kilometres, Phase 2 is significantly larger, and will extend the trail from Halfmoon Bay to Langdale.

The idea is to make use of existing trails and roads where possible or needed. According to a Sunshine Coast Regional District newsletter, “a low elevation multi-use trail between communities emerged as a preference,” after the community was consulted in 2017 on route options, which included using already-established trails at higher elevations.

The public will have another chance to provide feedback at the open house. People can send an email to planning.department@scrd.ca with the subject line: Suncoaster Open House Reminder to receive an email reminder. They can contact the same email for more information on the route concept.
