A 25-year-old mountain biker was rescued from the trails above Sprockids Bike Park in Langdale following a serious accident on Tuesday afternoon.

Sunshine Coast ground search and rescue (SAR) was paged at 2:40 p.m. and approximately 20 SAR members as well as two paramedics attended the accident at a trail called Doug’s Detention.

“He crashed after going off one of the jumps on that trail,” said SAR manager Alec Tebbutt. The biker was wearing helmet.

He was transported from the forest to the Langdale ferry terminal where he was transferred by air ambulance to Vancouver General Hospital.

The man had been living on a boat off Keats Island for the past couple of months, according to Tebbutt. He was biking alone.

“They were quite serious injuries,” said Tebbutt. “He was not in good condition.”

A ground SAR team from North Shore was also called in to the rescue with a long line but weren’t used.
