The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) is calling the death of 32-year-old Khan Michael Bourne of Sechelt Tuesday in Surrey a targeted killing.

Surrey RCMP were called to the 133000 block of 114 Avenue just after 3 p.m. after a man was found lying on the ground, critically injured. He died of gunshot wounds shortly after arriving in hospital.

IHIT identified Bourne as the victim on Wednesday morning.

“It is still early in the investigation but we believe Mr. Bourne was targeted for murder,” IHIT’s Cpl. Frank Jang said in a statement to Lower Mainland media, where he also said Bourne was known to police.

Staff Sgt. Poppy Hallam, Sunshine Coast RCMP detachment commander, said local victim services workers have been offering support to Bourne’s family and RCMP will be assisting IHIT, which has sent officers to the Sunshine Coast as their investigation continues.

A vehicle was seen speeding away from the scene and IHIT is asking anyone with dash cam, cell phone or security camera video taken in the area yesterday afternoon to contact investigators.

The IHIT information line is 1-877-551-IHIT (4448). Information can also be sent by email to [email protected] or anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
