Sunday, May 5, was a glorious day for the Hike for Hospice fundraising event in Mission Point Park. Hundreds of people (and quite a few dogs) enjoyed a traditional welcome song from Debra Baker and Howard Paull, music from BUGS ukulele group, Coast String Fiddlers and dj little d, speeches (and jokes) from local politicians, burgers and dogs grilled up by the Lions Club, a little clown action, and lots of bubbles! Members of Sunshine Dragons Abreast presented the Hospice Society with a cheque for $1,000, proceeds from their annual fashion show. MC for the event was new Hospice executive director Kim Barsanti. To wrap up the day, walkers set off along the seawall to raise awareness for the work Hospice does in the community. President of Sunshine Coast Hospice Society Denis Fafard said the organization is “edging in on this year’s goal of $50,000 … We are humbled and also thrilled to be the recipients of such generosity … absolutely staggering for a community this size.” See more photos in our online galleries at www.coastreporter.net/photos-videos/photos
