The B.C. government is spending $2.6 million to improve a stretch of Highway 101 between Powell River and Lund.

Road reconstruction will take place along a one-kilometre section of the highway between Krompocker Road to Malaspina Road. The improvements will include resurfacing, alignment upgrades, drainage improvements and newly widened, paved shoulders.

“Widening the road by 1.5 metres will make this stretch more usable for vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians travelling through nearby coastal communities,” the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure said in a release.

The work, by contractor B.A. Blacktop Ltd. of North Vancouver, will start in early August and is expected to be completed this fall. Drivers can expect single-lane, alternating traffic and delays of up to 30 minutes during construction, Mondays to Saturdays.
