The Town of Gibsons says it is resuming chlorination of the water supply in Zones 1 and 2.

The Town said in a notice Sept. 21 that it was making the move “on the advice of the Senior Drinking Water Officer, and following the recent replacement of two watermains in Lower Gibsons.”

The Town said it will be a temporary measure.

Gibsons also chlorinated the water in the two zones serving lower Gibsons in mid-July “as a precautionary measure” while it did the upgrade work needed to move Zone 3, which serves most of upper Gibsons, off of the Sunshine Coast Regional District’s Chapman system.

Although Zone 3 is now getting water from the Gibsons Aquifer, chlorination for that zone will continue indefinitely because some SCRD water will still be needed at times of high demand and Vancouver Coastal Health will not allow the Town to mix the chlorinated SCRD supply with unchlorinated water.
