Gibsons council gave final approval to the Town’s 2020 budget on May 5, after making a series of amendments to lower the overall tax increase to 2.2 per cent and shift some of the tax burden away from commercial properties.

The 2.2 per cent overall increase means a typical residential property valued at $625,729 will see an increase to the municipal portion of its tax bill of $50.68 over 2019.

A commercial property, valued at $988,984, will see a decrease of $154.37.

Water and sewer parcel taxes will also go up by five per cent.

The sewer parcel tax will go up $18.03 to $378.70 and the water parcel tax will go up by $11.25 to $257.69.

Earlier this year council approved a five per cent increase in the water and sewer user fees, which was estimated to mean an increase of $12 in sewer fees for a typical home and an increase of $19 in water fees for a property that uses about 100 cubic metres of water every six months.
