Coast Reporter wins four national awards

Canadian Community Newspaper Awards

Coast Reporter has captured multiple awards in the just-announced Canadian Community Newspaper Awards (CCNA).

The national awards program recognizes the best work in community publishing across Canada. Winners were announced on Friday, March 27.

Coast Reporter staff writer John Gleeson captured first place for best news story in the country in the 4,000 to 12,499 circulation class for his coverage of the January 2014 BC Ferries protest. Coast Reporter also picked up a second place award for its website: www.coastreporter.net

At the Great Idea Awards, which is the CCNA competition for best print and digital advertising and promotional work from 2014, Coast Reporter won gold and silver awards for its popular Sunshine Coast Life magazine, for the fall and winter editions.

“We are delighted at the recognition we have received from the Canadian Community Newspaper Association,” said Coast Reporter publisher Peter Kvarnstrom.

“This validates that the work our staff do diligently every week in our community is some of the best done anywhere in Canada. The Sunshine Coast community provides great stories for our reporters to tell and to craft. For that we are thankful, as we are for the talent of our journalists, designers and the whole team at Coast Reporter.”
