About a dozen California sea lions were lounging and casually feeding on baitfish just off the shíshálh Nation shoreline for most of the day Sunday, Nov. 4. Except for a couple of old bulls, all were young bachelor males (note the developing domed “crests”), as the females and most mature males generally remain in the breeding grounds along the California coast. This herd likely hauls out on the White Islets, where they co-exist with Steller sea lions.
