A beached yacht was successfully refloated in Sechelt last weekend with the help of some local muscle.

The yacht Exuberance washed ashore on the incoming tide in Trail Bay after she broke from her mooring in high winds about 10:30 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 10.

The rescue attempt got underway at about 6:30 p.m. Saturday, as high tide approached and residents gathered to watch and assist with the rescue effort.

Three small tugs were attached to the bow of the approximately 40-ft. vessel and a work gang made up of local men hauled on a rope tied to the top of the mast, helping to free the keel as the tide rose. Other locals helped by pushing on the stern.

Spectators cheered as the yacht floated clear of the beach. Scraped but otherwise apparently undamaged, Exuberance was taken to safe harbour at Port Stalashen.
