He is one of the last remaining older veterans of Gibsons Branch 109 of the Royal Canadian Legion. Sunday, November 11 was the 100th anniversary of Armistice Day, marking the end of the First World War. The tradition of remembrance was started in 1919 by King George V. Last Sunday, hundreds gathered at cenotaphs and Legions in Pender Harbour, Sechelt, Roberts Creek and Gibsons to honour those who have served in the military and fought in wars involving Canada, including the Second World War, the Korean War, the Persian Gulf War, the War in Afghanistan, and the ongoing military intervention against ISIL. Local politicians and officials as well as volunteer organizations laid wreathes, while in Gibsons, RCMP Staff Sgt. Poppy Hallam spoke after the ceremony about the impact of war veterans on Canada.
