Three Sunshine Coast groups are getting a share of the provincial government’s latest round of Rural Dividend grants.

In all, 68 local governments, First Nations and not-for-profit organizations received funding this round in order to, as the province puts it, “reinvigorate and diversify their local economies.”

“It takes a lot of hard work to develop ideas that can stimulate local prosperity and create jobs for small communities,” said Doug Donaldson, Minister of Forests, Lands, Natural Resource Operations and Rural Development. “Rural citizens are resourceful, and the calibre of these project development applications reflects their ingenuity and commitment to community development.”

Grants of up to $10,000 were available for preliminary work needed to pursue larger community projects in the future.

Sunshine Coast Tourism is getting $10,000.

The Sechelt Downtown Business Association (SDBA) is getting $10,000 to study how best to create to a system of “wayfinding” signage, including signs on the highway listing amenities in Sechelt and signs for walking routes and points of historical interest downtown.

And, the Vantage Point Strategies Society was granted $9,969 for work it will be doing in partnership with the District of Sechelt and area volunteer and non-profit organizations to look at the make-up of the non-profit sector and develop a plan to support local non-profits.
