UNBC has found world experience in the hiring of its new Vice President, Finance and Administration.

The university has tagged Rahim Somani to take up the role, which he started at the post-secondary school on Nov. 2.

“We are fortunate to have attracted such a strong candidate with a breadth of skills and experience and I have no doubt that he will provide the strategic thinking and leadership needed from those on our senior administration team,” Dr. Geoff Payne, UNBC’s interim President and Chancellor said in a media release.

Somani has a strong resume in a similar role which saw him spend more than a decade at the University of Central Asia, where he oversaw finance and operations.

"I truly feel fortunate to be a part of UNBC, the university both in and for the north, at this important juncture," he added in the release.

“My family and I are very excited about our move to beautiful Prince George and be a part of the vibrant and cheerful UNBC community.

"I firmly believe that the notion of accepting diversity and differences as strengths, working as a coherent team and an integrated community to achieve collective excellence, and nurturing compassion will be pivotal in achieving UNBC’s long-term aspirations."

Somani was also the Interim Chief Executive Officer in Pakistan at Aga Khan Education Service. He held numerous positions within the organization, starting in 1998.

He received his Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Karachi in 1992 and his Master of Arts in Educational Planning, Economics and International Development from University College of London's Institute of Education in 2006.

Somani also received his Chartered Professional Accountant and Chartered Account qualifications in B.C during 2014 and in Ontario during 2018.

"I am looking forward to making my humble contribution to the best of my abilities, in taking UNBC’s ambitious and inspiring vision to transform the lives of communities through excellence, inclusivity, and compassion."
