A GoFundMe online fundraising account has been set up for Courtenay Pedersen of Port Moody.

The community of Port Moody is rallying around a young woman facing brain surgery today after she became extremely sick on Friday.

Courtenay Pedersen, 27, was taken to Eagle Ridge Hospital and, after testing, was found to have a brain tumour on the left frontal lobe of her brain, according to a write-up on GoFundMe.

According to Adrienne Lloyd, who set up a GoFundMe fundraiser for the PoMo woman, Pedersen was expected to undergo surgery today and to receive follow up care and a treatment plan.

“While we wait for more answers and the next steps we are asking for your help during this difficult time,” said Lloyd, who started the online fundraiser to support Pedersen as she is unable to work.

“For those of you who don't know Courtenay, she is 27 years old and an amazing young woman. She works 2 jobs and loves her community, friends and family, and her job very much.

“This news has had a devastating impact on many in our community. She lost her mother to brain cancer a few years ago so this news has rattled her family and friends to their core; however we hold out hope and faith for her,” Lloyd further writes.

As of Monday morning, $25,715 had been raised of a $30,000 goal.

Those who have donated include former school mates and and people who know Pedersen, and her father, Dave, from the Coquitlam-Moody Ringette Association.
