Sunshine Coast RCMP reported the following for April 16 to 23:

• On April 16, police attended a mischief or possible break and enter in progress at a business in the 700 block of Gibsons Way, after a witness noticed a broken window and a possible suspect walking away from the building. Police located damage to two windows but it doesn’t appear that the suspect gained entry to the building. The suspect was dressed in a black hoody and blue jeans and was holding a green and white grocery bag. Anyone with any information about this incident is asked to contact RCMP, reference file 2019-2186.

• On April 16, police attended a mischief report in the 5900 block of Cowrie Street, Sechelt, after the property owner discovered two large loads of boulders dumped onto his property. Anyone with any information about this incident is asked to contact RCMP, reference file 2019-2198.

• Early on April 21, police attended a glass break alarm at a business in the 5600 block of Cowrie Street. The suspect appears to have used an old hammer that was left behind at the scene to smash a hole in a front window. However, no entry was attempted and no other damage was reported. Police are reviewing local surveillance video and the file is still under investigation.

• Early on April 21, police attended a construction site in the 5900 block of Sechelt Inlet Road after a monitoring company advised that an unknown male had entered the property and appeared to be stealing scrap metal and a piece of equipment. However a property representative later did not note anything missing. Police were unable to locate the suspect but are reviewing surveillance video. The file is still under investigation.

Thefts

• On April 16, police attended a theft at a business in the 900 block of Gibsons Way, after staff captured a female suspect stealing a pair of jeans. The theft is captured on surveillance video and police are attempting to identify the suspect. The file is still under investigation.

• On the morning of April 17, a suspect stole a backpack from Chatelech High School, Sechelt. The black Dakine brand backpack has distinctive multi-colour zigzag stitching and contained some notebooks and key rings as well as a Lenovo laptop computer that is covered in stickers and missing its CD drive. Anyone with any information about this theft is asked to contact RCMP, reference police file 2019-2220.

• On April 20, a theft was reported after a customer noticed her navy blue wallet missing from her shopping bag after a visit to the Sechelt Farmers’ Market. The customer retraced her steps but her wallet was not located nor was it turned in to market staff. On April 23, the wallet was recovered by Canada Post staff who’d found it in a drop box on the weekend.

• On April 20, police attended a theft at a business in the 600 block of School Road, Gibsons, after the suspect stole a staff member’s cell phone and fled on foot. The suspect, described as a tall, slim black male in his late 20s wearing a ripped denim vest and shorts, was then noted as a suspicious male in two incidents that came in a short time later in lower Gibsons. Police continued patrols and located the suspect and arrested him for possession of stolen property. The male was released on a promise to appear for court. The file is still under investigation.

• On April 19, police investigated a theft from a business in the 4300 block of Highway 101, Sechelt, after the suspect was caught on surveillance video taking an item and leaving without paying for it. The suspect, who was known to the business, has been banned from the business.

Erratic Driving

• On April 17, a witness reported an erratic driver speeding and passing unsafely southbound on Highway 101 near Mercer Road, Halfmoon Bay. Police located the suspect vehicle in West Sechelt. The driver was not impaired but was issued violation tickets for driving without insurance, failing to produce driver’s licence and wrong number plate.
