Traffic Incidents

• On July 10, police attended a two-vehicle incident on Highway 101 at Selma Park Road, Sechelt, after the first vehicle attempted to make a left turn westbound onto the highway and struck the second vehicle which was heading east. The eastbound vehicle swerved in an attempt to avoid the first vehicle but was struck by it on the passenger side. Fortunately, no injuries were reported by either driver but both vehicles sustained severe damage and had to be towed from the scene. The first vehicle driver was issued a violation ticket for driving without due care and the matter has been referred to ICBC.

• On July 14, police attended a single-vehicle incident on Highway 101 near East Oyster Bay Road, Sechelt, after the vehicle veered right into a ditch. The driver, who was uninjured and unimpaired, could not explain why she went off road. The vehicle, which did not sustain any visible damage, was towed back to the owner’s residence. Police will be submitting a driver’s licence medical review.

• On July 16, police attended a two-vehicle incident in a parking lot in the 4300 block of Highway 101, Sechelt, after a driver reversed his vehicle at higher than normal speed out of his spot and backed into the open passenger door of a parked vehicle behind it, causing minor injuries to the passenger who was standing inside the door. The driver, who was not impaired, advised he’d pressed the reverse pedal and was startled by how quickly it reversed before he managed to hit the brake. The driver was issued a violation ticket for reversing when unsafe. The matter has been referred to ICBC.

Mischief

• On July 11, police attended a mischief complaint at a business in the 700 block of School Road, Gibsons, after staff noticed a suspect had cut through a fence to gain entry into the property. Staff are still determining if anything was stolen; no other damage was reported.

Suspicious People / Break and Enters

• On July 11, police received a report of a possible break and enter after three suspects were seen leaving a residence in the 5000 block of Panorama Drive, Garden Bay at approximately 5 p.m. on July 10. The suspects, all described as Caucasians in their mid-twenties, included a male about six feet tall with short brown hair, wearing flip-flops and shorts, a female with long red hair in a denim skirt, and a female with short black hair wearing white-rimmed glasses and shorts. The resident questioned the male – described as slim, about six feet tall, and wearing rubber boots – and the suspect said he was looking for a friend. The suspect then ran to his vehicle, described as an enhanced silver Honda Accord which was in the driveway, and drove off at high speed towards Davis Bay. The resident got into her vehicle and gave chase and noticed a second vehicle, a grey SUV, appear to join the first vehicle but lost track of both vehicles as they fled at high speed towards Sechelt. Anyone with any information about this incident is asked to contact RCMP, reference file 2018-4599.
