Heads up, there's going to be some closures and traffic detours amid a series of Coquitlam road upgrades this summer.
The city is alerting local commuters of four projects that are ongoing and some are set to continue until the fall with a goal of providing safer routes for pedestrians, cyclists and drivers alike.
"Transportation and utility projects support safety, asset management, economic development and housing growth by improving the movement of people and goods, ensuring reliable sewer and water services and managing stormwater," explains Mark Zaborniak, Coquitlam city design and construction manager, in a statement this week.
He adds completion timelines are subject to change depending on the weather.
The current construction projects underway are as follows — all of which are funded through the city's approved 2022-2025 capital plan, plus other revenues, reserves and grants:
- Cedar Drive upgrades
- Sanitary sewer system upgrades and road work
- Set to be completed in fall 2022
- Como Lake Avenue
- Repaving from Clarke Road to Mariner Way
- Set to be completed in August 2022
- Gatensbury Street improvement project
- Upgrades to road, sidewalk, and cycling infrastructure from Como Lake Park to the Port Moody border, as a part of the City’s Frontage Works Program
- Set to be completed in fall 2022
- Victoria Drive storm diversion sewer
- Underground storm sewer work (detour between Baycrest Avenue and Pollard Street)
- Set to be completed in August 2022
Zaborniak asks the public to drive with caution when in the above neighbourhoods, watch for all crew members on site and to obery all traffic signs, including construction speed limits.
As well, he encourages everyone to find alternate routes to avoid delays.
