Creating a one-of-a-kind drink for the advancement of education.

That's the goal behind a new up-and-coming blend a Port Moody brewery has promised local beer lovers today (March 8).

In the spirit of International Women's Day, Parkside Brewery (2731 Murray St.) has announced a new collaboration with a non-profit organization that focuses on education for women and non-binary individuals in the alcohol beverage industry.

Pink Boots Society has a series of scholarship programs for those looking to move forward in their careers, noting it's important that those involved teach, encourage and motivate each other.

"We help each other advance both front-of-the-house and back-of-the-house careers by raising money for educational scholarships," the society's description reads.

Parkside Brewery is in the middle of creating an ale mixed with cherry, lime and elderflower — a white blossom grown on elderberry trees commonly used in British drinks and desserts, said to be delicate in flavour.

Proceeds from the limited edition drink is set to "contribute directly" to the Pink Boots Society's scholarship programs to "assist, inspire and encourage women in the industry to advance their careers through education."

Parkside is set to release the new drink on April 8. A name has yet to be determined, the brewery explains.

Since 2013, Pink Boots has awarded nearly 90 scholarships to women and non-binary people in the brewing industry across North America.
