Coquitlam police are looking to reunite some cash with its rightful owner.

A Good Samaritan brought in what Mounties say is a "significant amount" of money this week after finding it near a busy trail in Port Coquitlam.

Now, police are hoping the rightful owner will come forward to claim the cash.

RCMP explain an individual discovered the money on Wednesday (July 6) after it was dropped in the 500-block of Dominion Avenue — around the entrance to Traboulay PoCo Trail.

Spokesperson Const. Deanna Law says the person then turned it over to the Coquitlam RCMP detachment.

She says a situation like this serves as a reminder to local residents they can file a police report immediately after losing a large sum of physical money.

"There is no reason to feel embarrassed," Law explains in a statement today (July 7).

"Accidents happen and police would simply like to get the money back to the individual that lost it."

A series of questions will be asked to when the owner calls to ensure the right person gets their money back.

This includes the correct amount, denominations and what carried the cash.

If the cash found on July 6 is yours, you can claim it by calling Coquitlam RCMP at 604-945-1550 and quote file-number 2022-17143.
